Google Firebase: Cloud storage, authentication, database (Firestore)
AI API: AI-powered item recognition (the photo is processed in real time for recognition and is not kept by the AI service afterwards - see Section 5 for the item photos we do store)
AppsFlyer: Advertising measurement and attribution - tells us which advertisement led to an install, and whether that person went on to subscribe. See Section 12.
3.2 Legal Requirements
Law enforcement or government agencies (if required by law)
Compliance with subpoenas, court orders, or legal processes
3.3 Business Transfers
In case of merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may transfer to the new owner.
3.4 With Your Consent
If you explicitly authorize sharing (e.g., with a third-party integration).
4. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with third-party services that have their own privacy policies:
We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices. Review their policies independently.
5. Photos and AI Processing
5.1 AI Item Recognition
When you use the camera feature, the photo is sent to our AI service for item identification
It is processed in real time for that purpose and is not kept by the AI service afterwards
The text results - such as item names, categories and estimated values - are saved as part of your inventory
5.2 Item Photos We Keep
Photos you attach to an item are stored in two places, so that your inventory still has its pictures after you change or reinstall your phone:
On your device: in the app's own private storage area
In our cloud storage: a resized copy (maximum 800 pixels) is uploaded to Google Firebase Storage, in an area private to your account, and the item records a link to it
The cloud copy is what lets your photos appear on your other devices, in the web app, and to people you share a box with in a household group. Access is restricted to your own account, and the link recorded on the item is a long, unguessable address that is only visible to someone who can already open that box.
We do not use your photos for advertising, we do not sell them, and they are never shared with any advertising or measurement partner. They are not used to train AI models.
5.3 Your Control
You can opt-out of AI features by manually typing item names instead of using the camera
You can choose not to attach a photo to an item at all
Deleting an item deletes its photo, from both your device and our cloud storage
Deleting your account deletes all of your stored photos
6. Data Retention
Account Data: Retained while your account is active
Inventory Data: Retained until you delete it or your account
Usage Analytics: Retained for up to 26 months
Photos: Item photos are kept on your device and in our cloud storage until you delete the item or your account (see Section 5). Photos sent for AI recognition are not kept by the AI service.
Backup Data: Deleted data may remain in backups for up to 90 days
Legal Requirements: Some data may be retained longer if required by law
7. Your Privacy Rights
You have the following rights:
Right to Access: Request a copy of your data (export feature in Account screen)
Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate data through the App
Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): Delete your account and all data

Right to opt out of sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell your personal information. However, the advertising measurement described in Section 12.2 - and the website advertising cookies described in Section 10.1 - count as "sharing" under California law. You can opt out at any time using the device and browser controls listed in Section 12.3, or by emailing us.
Right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights
To exercise these rights, contact us at owner@findanyitem.com or use the Account screen features.
8. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures:
Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
Encryption at rest (Firebase Cloud Storage)
Secure authentication (Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In)
Regular security audits
Access controls and authentication
Secure cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud)
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States, where our cloud service providers operate.
These transfers are protected by:
Google Cloud's data processing agreements
Standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission
Adequate security measures as required by GDPR and other laws
10. Cookies and Tracking
The mobile App uses:
Local Storage: To cache data for offline use
Analytics SDK: Firebase Analytics for usage statistics
Advertising ID: For personalized ads and for advertising measurement (see Section 12). On iOS this identifier is only used if you allow tracking when asked; on Android it can be reset or opted out of in system settings.
You can control tracking through device settings (Limit Ad Tracking on iOS, Opt out of Ads Personalization on Android).
10.1 This Website
findanyitem.com uses cookies and similar technologies for:
Analytics: Google Analytics, to understand which pages people visit
Advertising measurement: Google Ads and the Meta pixel, to measure whether an advertisement led someone to visit the site or go on to the app store, and to show relevant advertisements
If your browser settings indicate you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, no advertising or analytics cookie is set and no identifier is stored on your device until you accept in the banner shown on your first visit. You can decline, and the site works normally. To change your choice later, clear this site's data in your browser and reload the page.
We do not use cookies on this website to collect anything you have typed, and the website does not have access to your inventory data.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at owner@findanyitem.com. We will delete such data promptly.
12. Advertising
12.1 Advertisements Shown In the App
Free tier users may see advertisements provided by Google Mobile Ads.
Advertisers may collect:
Device advertising ID
IP address
App usage data
The App shows no banner or interstitial advertising to anyone. The only advertisements are optional rewarded videos you choose to watch in exchange for extra AI scans, and they are available on every plan.
12.2 Advertising Measurement and Attribution
We advertise the App on platforms such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. To understand whether that advertising works, we use AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement partner. This tells us which advertisement led to an install, and whether that person went on to complete registration or make a purchase.
For this purpose the following is shared with AppsFlyer, and passed on by AppsFlyer to the advertising platform that delivered the advertisement:
Your device advertising identifier and general device information
Your IP address
The install referrer supplied by the app store
An internal account identifier (a random ID, not your name or email)
Two events, if they happen: that an account was created, and that a subscription was purchased - the latter including the amount and currency charged
This is used to measure and improve advertising. It is not used to build a profile of what you store in the App: your inventory, item names, photos, searches and box contents are never shared with any advertising or measurement partner.
On iOS you are asked, on first launch, whether to allow tracking. If you decline, your device's advertising identifier is not used and your activity is not linked to you across other companies' apps and websites; we still count that an install, registration or purchase happened, so that we can tell how our advertising performed. Apple's SKAdNetwork may also send the advertising platform a privacy-preserving install notification that is not linked to you.
12.3 How To Opt Out
iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking - turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track", or turn off FindAnyItem specifically
Android: Settings > Google > Ads > Delete advertising ID, or Opt out of Ads Personalization
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland: the App asks for your consent before personalised advertising, and this website asks before any advertising or analytics cookie
This website: decline in the cookie banner, as described in Section 10.1
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by:
Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App
Updating the "Last Updated" date
Sending an email notification (for significant changes)
Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
